JAMB urges CANDIDATES to verify NIN and CREATE PROFILES ahead of 2026 UTME/DE registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised students planning to sit for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) to start creating their profiles immediately.

Taking this step early helps candidates avoid technical hitches and the rush that usually happens when registration begins.

Verify Your NIN Details First

Before you start the profile creation process, JAMB insists that you check your National Identification Number (NIN) details. Make sure your name, date of birth, and other personal information are 100% correct.

The board warned that any mistakes in your NIN will carry over to your JAMB profile. Since the window to correct these errors is very small, it is better to fix any issues with NIMC before you link your NIN to JAMB.

Registration Fees Stay the Same

In a move to support families during current economic challenges, JAMB confirmed that the cost of application documents has not increased. The price has remained the same for the last nine years.

The board stated that they intend to keep these fees stable for the 2026 exercise to ensure that every student has a fair chance to apply without an extra financial burden.

Don't Wait for the Deadline

While an official start date for the sale of forms hasn't been fixed, JAMB mentioned that registration can begin at any moment. By creating your profile now, you ensure that you are ready as soon as the portal opens.

Key things to remember:

  • Accuracy is your responsibility: Do not rely on CBT centers to fix mistakes later; get it right from the start.
  • Correction limits: JAMB may not allow changes to personal data once the registration is submitted.
  • NIN is mandatory: You cannot create a profile or register without a valid NIN.

Here is the step-by-step guide to generating your 10-digit profile code:

Step 1: Prepare Your SIM Card

  • Use a Unique Number: Use a phone number that hasn't been used by someone else for JAMB in previous years.
  • Link to Your Identity: This number will be tied to your name forever for all JAMB-related matters (checking results, admission letters, etc.).
  • Check Your Balance: Ensure you have at least ₦50 in your airtime balance. Note: Bonus airtime from data plans or "extra talk" offers will not work.

Step 2: Format the SMS

  1. Open your messaging app.
  2. Type the word NIN, then press the spacebar once, and then type your 11-digit National Identification Number.
    • Correct Format: NIN 12345678901
    • Wrong Format: NIN12345678901 (No space) or NIN-12345678901 (Dash)

Step 3: Send the SMS

  • Send the message to 55019 or 66019.
  • Wait a few minutes. You will receive a text message containing your 10-digit Profile Code and your registered name as it appears on your NIN.

Step 4: What to Do After Receiving the Code

Once you have your profile code, you can proceed to:

  1. Buy your e-PIN: Present the code at a bank, via Remita, or other approved vendors to purchase your UTME or DE registration PIN.
  2. Visit a CBT Center: Take your e-PIN and your profile code to an accredited JAMB CBT center to complete your biometric capture and registration.
